  • PA Department of Health Statewide Immunization Information System

    The Statewide Immunization Information System (SIIS) is a population-based immunization tracking system that is being developed to aid in achieving complete and timely immunizations for all people, particularly the age group most at risk, birth through two years.  The registry is now being implemented in the public sector; future efforts will focus on implementation in the private sector.  PA VFC quality assurance site surveyors are currently identifying providers who are interested in piloting the registry.  For more information, contact the Bureau of Health Statistics and Research at 717-783-2548.   • Immunization Skills Training
    The PA IEP offers a 3-hour, PowerPoint and hands-on Skills Station program on Immunization Skills. The Immunization Skills Workshop includes content on correct vaccine administration techniques for oral, intranasal, intramuscular, and subcutaneous vaccine administration; key points on vaccine storage and handling; preventing and dealing with power failure affecting vaccine stocks; preventing and responding to adverse events; science-based responses to vaccine safety concerns; importance of health care worker immunizations (especially influenza and Tdap); documentation; correct use and disposal of safety syringes; patient restraint for safe immunization; comfort measures; and other aspects of immunization skills. The Skills Station involves supervision from an RN while participants draw up and administer "vaccine" (diluent) into a needlepad and correctly dispose of the needle into a sharps container.
